The village of Alcover belongs to Alt Camp region and it is located at the foot of Prades Mountains. With a population of 5.000 inhabitants, its historical quarter offers a route which we will learn about with its important historical and architectural legacy. It’s worth drawing attention to the Old Romanesque Church from the Middle Ages, partly destroyed during the Spanish Civil War, and a few remains such as towers (some of them with museography), gates and the wall. The Modern Period was specially glorious for the village of Alcover: a good example of that is its Renaissance legacy with different majestic houses, such as ca l’Abadia, ca Cosme or ca Batistó. With its stunning size and its unfinished belltower, the New Church stands as an interesting witness of the Baroque Period. To finish the walk we will visit the Municipal Museum of Alcover, where we will see an amazing permanent exhibition of palaeontology: Prades Mountains 240 million years ago, which shows the natural environment of Prades Mountains when they were a tropical sea in the Prehistoric Period. The exhibition has an exceptional collection of fossils which were found in this area. In the same museum we will go into the daily life of the bourgeoisie from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. We will visit ca Batistó, a majestic house from the 18th century, adapted to the very modern museography to show some of the different daily areas of the bourgeoisie: technological advances, the role of women, religiosity, hygiene, etc. To complete the tour we will taste the gastronomical delicacies made in the village and its surroundings: the so-called “calçotades” will be the star product in that matter, to finish with a visit to La Rosita craft beer factory and the Honey House.
