The Cistercian route is one of the most important cultural and religious routes in the country. The route is made up of the Cistercian monasteries of Poblet (Conca de Barberà, region of Tarragona), Santes Creus (Alt Camp, region of Tarragona) and Vallbona d eles Monges (Urgell, region of Lleida). Theses monasteries are excellent examples of the Cistercian architecture and the strict monastically life which was developed along the centuries. They became important religious and cultural centres. We will travel to the Mediaeval period, starting from the Christian reconquest to the incorporation of the Castilian dynasty into the Aragón kingdom and going along the many conflicts in the Modern period, such as the secularization that monasteries suffered with the expropriation law in 1835. We will learn about the influence of kings with their royal pantheons of Poblet and Santes Creus and we will know about the current life of some of these monasteries, which still preserve religious communities.
