About Reus

Reus is the capital of the Baix Camp region. With its 107,000 inhabitants it is the second city in the province of Tarragona. Its historic centre is a beautiful set of modernist buildings and elegant shopping streets. Founded in the 12th century, it soon stood out for its weekly market held in the most central square of Reus, the Plaza del Mercadal. The city reached its peak between the 18th and 19th centuries, when it became the second city in Catalonia, thanks to liquor industry and later, textile sector and vermouth production. A reflection of this economic power is its modernist heritage, the pride of the city.
